Introduction of Kimura laboratory

Currently, with the development of VLSI technology, designers face some problems such as high complexity of circuits and power consumptions. Hence, for any sophisticated design, optimization and verification are indispensable. Kimura laboratory is a great place where you can learn both the LSI design optimization and verification technologies. In this laboratory, we focus on research topics as following:
1) LSI design optimization, such as 3D VLSI optimization and approximate computing
2) Reconfigurable architecture, such as majority based on logic synthesis.
3) Acceleration of deep learning, such as convolutional neural networks accelerator using FPGA.
4) Design of verification technology, such as arithmetic circuit verification and post silicon validation.
There are one research associate, three doctor course students and fourteen master course students in our laboratory. All members are hardworking and pursue their research objectives in this laboratory. The atmosphere of the laboratory is always lively and pleasant. Students study and share their creative thinking together. Every week, we report our research status during laboratory seminar, in which professor and other students raise questions and give their suggestions. In addition, we have a joint seminar with members in Watanabe Lab. and Yoshimura Lab. Students from different laboratories can present and exchange their academic experience, and obtain some advice from three professors. It is very helpful to us make good progress.
Professor Kimura is a kind gentleman, who gives us much help that includes not only profound knowledge but also modest virtues. He listens to our presentation carefully and gives us inspiring advice. Under the patient guidance of professor Kimura, every member in our laboratory does the best to achieve one’s research aim. In recent years, our laboratory has published many papers in domestic and international conferences and journals.
In our laboratory, we often organize kinds of activities, such as barbecue, farewell party and New Year party. Though each member comes from different cultural areas, we all get along well with each other and enjoy the experience in Kimura laboratory.
