Create and change the world with Robotic
FANG Pengcheng and CHAI Zheng, 2nd grade, Master program

Recently, robotics is a hot and challenging research topic due to the increasing development of human-robot interaction (HRI), artificial intelligence (AI), computer vision (CV) and machine learning (ML), which are the fields we focus on.
Our lab is Bio-Robotics & Human-Mechatronics Laboratory. The major aim of this lab is to obtain better interaction / relationship between human and robot. Some research subjects have been done in this lab, such as Walking/Arm Trainer, Writing Trainer, Projecting Desktop I/F, Remote Operation and Human Detecting/Following Robot. Some research subjects are being done in this lab recently, such as Face/Gesture Recognition, Augmented Reality (AR), Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), Path Planning, Mobile Robot Network Control, Holographic Interaction. Some international conference papers and academic journal papers have been published on IEEE, SICE or IEICE, Fuji Technology Press in the past several years.
Prof. T. Matsumaru is a kind and considerate supervisor, who is always serious about the research work and cares about the growth of students. He will not limit the research topics of the students, but he would like to give professional suggestions. He is very hardworking, active and curious about research work. Students frequently receive the forwarding email from him about the related technology news, papers, journal/conference information, even the related research about particular student. As occasion serves, he will encourage or lead students to some exhibition, lecture or factory tour in robotics field. On the other hand, he will not only guide students how to conduct research, but also teach us how to report or summarize our research. And we often talk with Prof. T. Matsumaru about our future plans or life ideals.
There are regular seminars twice a week on Monday and Friday morning. Students are asked to report their research progress and receive some advices and suggestions from Prof. T. Matsumaru and other students. We must think more about how to make these comments beneficial to improve the research. If possible, students should submit their research outcome to some international conferences or academic journals. Prof. T. Matsumaru will guide us how to organize the information logically and write the manuscript with a sense of engineering. We have the regular party every semester and special parties for welcome new students, farewell graduates, viewing cherry blossoms and happy New Year. At that time we can promote friendship while enjoying the delicious food and beautiful scenery.
If you are interested in Robotics and want to use new technology to create and change the world, the Bio-Robotics & Human-Mechatronics Laboratory is the place to make your dream come true!
