Kamata Lab

A family of image processing
LI JINGWEI, 2nd degree, Master course

Nowadays, with the overwhelming popularity of machine learning, image processing is being developed prosperously and rapidly. And this is exactly what you can see in our lab – A family of image processing.
Since image processing is a big concept, there are a lot of research topics in Kamata Lab. Like  Facial Recognition, Pedestrian Detection, Road Detection, Image Segmentation are what we are focusing on now. And you can choose your own interested topic as you want because Prof. Kamata sets the Lab a free and harmonious home for us.
Prof. Kamata is not only a guider but also a model for us. In research, he always gives good advice to us. Every day he comes to office early and leave late, work hard like a young student which impressed every one of us. He always teaches us that “A paper a day, A book a week”. It’s not only a word from him but the way he is actually doing. Never mind ask for his help when you have problems in life. We have seminar parties every semester to welcome new students to our lab. And we also have end-of-year party to celebrate new year! They are all hold by Prof. Kamata. We talk about happiness, achievement of the past year or the wishes, dreams for the new year.
As for research life, we have a seminar every week. In the seminar, we listen to each other ideas and give our opinions. Prof. Kamata always emphasize that we must have our questions or understanding from the seminar. At first I didn’t understand actually. I thought it’s meaningless to listen to presentations of different topics. However I can tell the truth now that although we have different research topics, but the method we create is the most important. Because the topics are branches from the tree of image processing, the methods created can be same. Therefore it’s important to listen to others’ ideas!
Finally, if you are interested in Image Processing with your high motivation, welcome to our Kamata laboratory! I promise you will earn your priceless Waseda life!
