New Information Technologies for Production System Optimization and Improved Efficiency
WANG BENXIN, 1st grade, Master programme
Based on the research theme of manufacturing information systems, the Murata Laboratory investigates both theory and methodology for using information technologies to optimize and improve the efficiency of production systems. Research is conducted across a wide range of fields including information system architecture for production systems, scheduling, supply chain management systems, and product information management.
Professor Murata previously worked in the corporate sector so has practical experience researching and developing various systems. His approach to teaching is not limited to theory, but focuses on practical application using case studies. In the seminar, students take turns reading English texts related to production information systems, compiling what they have learned and making presentations. The latest technical papers pertaining to each research are surveyed, reports are made on ideas and status for each research theme, and discussions involving all members are held. These activities all support and contribute to the research undertaken by each student. Furthermore, students achieving good research results are encouraged to submit papers and present results at international academic societies. The teachers value one-on-one communication with each student. To this end, personal interviews are regularly held so that teachers can provide advice about research and student life. Professor Murata also has experience living abroad from his days working for a corporation. As such, he is an excellent person to talk to about study abroad opportunities.
Currently exchange students from China, Russia, and Thailand are studying at the Murata Laboratory. This provides an excellent opportunity to overcome language barriers, make good friends, and experience cross-cultural communication. Seminar trips are held each semester. The students tour plants in various industries in order to see actual production sites. Recently the seminar visited the production site of an automobile maker and there have also been trips to hot springs and parties. Such events help to deepen friendships among the students.
Those interested in the Murata Laboratory should definitely stop by for a visit. Together let’s enjoy meaningful graduate student lives.
