Inujima Lab ~Clean Lab~

Ryota Shimowaki, 2nd Grade, Master’s ProgramOne feature of the Inujima Laboratory is that it only contains desks, chairs and printers. The aim is to maintain a very clean laboratory under our motto of the “Six S’s” [seiri (orderliness), seiton (tidiness), seiketsu (cleanliness), seiso (cleaning), shitsuke (proper training), and saho (proper procedure)]. Containing only those items necessary for research results in an environment where it is very easy to concentrate on research.
The Inujima Laboratory researches equipment diagnostic technologies. These technologies are used to determine whether equipment is break, locate the cause, and formulate countermeasures. These technologies are applied to a wide range of equipment from factory electric motors and electrical appliances to even bridge and tunnel equipment. Factories can reliably produce high quality products and public facilities are safe, reliable and comfortable thanks to equipment diagnostic technologies. In other words, these extremely important technologies provide fundamental support for society and are essential for safe, comfortable and worry-free lifestyles.
We apply statistical and signal analysis, as well as instrumentation engineering expertise in in researching equipment diagnostics. As such, we are a laboratory for people who like and are skilled in mathematics.
The laboratory’s instructor, Professor Inujima, has a very long corporate background and he expects results. That may sound demanding, but Professor Inujima is extremely nice and approachable. He enjoys interacting with students and is easy to talk to about school life and job hunting. As Professor Inujima often engages his students in conversation, the laboratory is always bright and lively.
Furthermore, a student of this laboratory won the Hibikino Award, the highest honor for a master thesis from one of the three graduate schools in the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park.
If you are interested in the “clean” research environment provided by the Inujima Laboratory and want to research equipment diagnostic technologies that support the foundations of our society, we encourage you to give us a visit.
