本研究の目的は二つである。第一に、英語圏で近年注目を集める比較政治理論について、その方法論的諸問題を整理・探究すること。特に、日本ならび東アジアでの（比較）政治理論研究が、英語圏での議論にどのように貢献しうるかを考察したい。第二の目標は、自由、平等、民主制といった政治理論の「伝統的な」諸概念が、比較という観点からどのように再考されうるかを検討することである。2026年度に新たに設置された部会として、国内外を問わず、関係諸分野の研究者ネットワーク構築を重視したプロジェクト運営を行いたい。また、櫻田会からの研究助成を受け、今年度には招待講演等のイベントを開催する予定である。

The goal of this project is twofold. One is to explore methodological issues in Comparative Political Theory, with a special interest in the potential contributions of Japanese and East Asian scholarship to the latest Anglophone debates in the discipline. The other goal is to reconsider some of the ‘traditional’ concepts in political theory, such as liberty, equality and democracy, from a comparative perspective. As a new project launched in 2026, we place a strong emphasis on network-building, connecting scholars in relevant research areas both domestically and internationally. We will host a series of talks by invited speakers in the academic year 2026, made possible by generous support from the Sakurada-kai Foundation.
