本プロジェクトの統一テーマはデータ科学とゲーム理論の応用による国際関係、特に平和安全保障と新しい国際秩序に関する研究である。本年は次の二つの研究課題に取り組む。グローバル株式保有ネットワークにおける企業所有と支配の実態を解明し、その国際安全保障と秩序への影響を分析する。次世代の新しい核兵器に関し、新興技術による脅威や影響を取り込みつつ、核軍縮と両立する核抑止戦略をデザインする。「アルジェブラ」の語源は「失われた部分を統合・修復する」という意味です。経済安全保障と自由で開かれた政治経済秩序は本来は一体的な秩序の中で両立されるもの、核軍縮と核抑止は本来は統一的な秩序として成立すべきものであるところ、国際関係の「代数学」を用いてこれらの本来の姿をデザインし復元することが本研究プロジェクトの狙いです。

The overarching theme of this project is the application of data analytics and formal modeling to the study of international relations — peace and security as well as the emerging new world order, in particular. We will focus on two specific research projects for this academic year, both of which are to reunify broken parts of global order (hence, “algebra”): 1) Examining the power of corporate control in the global ownership network and its implications for international security and order; 2) Modeling new nuclear deterrence strategies that respond to the recent challenges posed by the emerging and destructive technologies and incentivize the nuclear-weapons states to reduce their reliance on nuclear weapons.
