本研究はプロメテウス神話が古代ギリシアでどう語られてきたかを調査することで、道徳、科学技術文明、家族制度、ギリシア民族性と「野蛮」に対する認識がどのように変化してきたのかを検討する。プロメテウス神話は、ヘシオドス、アイスキュロス、プラトンなどによって様々な仕方で利用され、その内容や含意が大きく異なっている。近代以降は、プロメテウスを自由の象徴として、独裁君主に対する反抗のシンボルとして利用してきた。本研究は社会情勢の変化や著述形式の違いに着目しながら、その道徳観の変化を分析する。神話研究や悲劇研究と政治哲学を結びつけることで、本研究は国際的に新しい領域の構築を目指す。

This study investigates how the myth of Prometheus has been narrated in ancient Greece, examining how perceptions of morality, technological civilization, family systems, Greek national identity, and “barbarism” have evolved. The Prometheus myth has been utilized in various ways by figures such as Hesiod, Aeschylus, and Plato, with significant differences in content and implications. In modern times, Prometheus was treated as a symbol of freedom and rebellion against tyrannical rulers. This research analyzes the changes in their moral perspectives while focusing on the shifts in social circumstances and differences in writing styles. By linking myth studies, tragedy studies, and political philosophy, this study aims to construct a new international field of inquiry.
