Political Attitudes and Participation of Minority Groups in the United States: The Case of Asian Americans and Latinos

本研究は、米国において政治的影響力を増大させている移民および人種的・エスニック・マイノリティ集団の政治態度と政治参加に関し、未開拓の諸課題を解明することを目的とする。特にラテン系・アジア系米国人に焦点を当て、政治的社会化、政策争点への態度、アイデンティティの変容、および投票行動の実態を多角的に分析する。具体的に、American National Election Surveys (ANES) や Cooperative Multiracial Postelection Survey (CMPS) 等の既存データベースの二次分析に加え、独自のサーベイ調査、サーベイ実験、およびフィールド実験を組み合わせ、因果関係の特定と実態解明を試みる。とりわけ、マイノリティ集団の低投票率の構造的要因の特定、および近年のイデオロギー的保守化傾向（Rightward Shift）の真偽とそのメカニズムについて、通時的に検証することに主眼を置く。本研究は米国を事例として分析するが、移民の流入や社会の多様化に直面する他国・他地域にも適用可能な、一般性の高い理論的・実証的含意を提示することを目的とする。

This research project examines the political attitudes and participation of racial and ethnic minority groups in the United States, a rapidly growing demographic with increasing political influence. Specifically focusing on Latinos and Asian Americans, the study aims to address under-explored questions regarding political socialization, policy preferences, identity formation, and electoral participation. Methodologically, this study employs a multi-method approach. In addition to the secondary analysis of established datasets, such as the American National Election Studies (ANES) and the Cooperative Multiracial Postelection Survey (CMPS), we will conduct original surveys and survey and field experiments to identify causal mechanisms. This project has two primary objectives: first, to identify the structural and psychological barriers contributing to low voter turnout among minority populations, and second, to conduct a longitudinal analysis to verify the recent ideological rightward shift observed within these groups. Although the primary focus is on the U.S. context, the goal is to develop a general theoretical framework applicable to other countries dealing with increasing migration and demographic diversification.
