【テーマ / Theme】History as Data Science データ科学としての歴史研究
【概要 / Abstract】
Dr. Connelly leads The History Lab at Columbia University, a team of scholars, designers, scientists, and engineers building tools to preserve the fabric of the past and provide lessons for the future. Historical research methods break down when the archive is made up of millions and eventually billions of electronic messages. Keyword-searching seems like an easy fix, but it can’t recreate past worlds or reveal unexpected connections. What tools will future historians use to take on the coming avalanche of electronic records? The History Lab develops various tools that offer solutions to the problem like this one and others. In his presentation, he will discuss the rationale and goals of the History Lab as well as promises and challenges faced by the computational approach to the study of history.
