■Abstract of the talk:
The talk will start with a brief introduction of study designs in social,
biological and medical sciences, with special references to Observational
Study (OS) and Completely Randomized Experiment (CRE). How the causal
inference is related to CRE will be highlighted and the role of balancing
with regard to key covariates in such cases will be explored. The notion of
re-randomization will be introduced and some related optimization issues
will also be explained. The last part of the talk will try to elaborate on
how an OS may be conceptualized through a hypothetical CRE. Few real life
examples to substantiate the idea will be considered and several exciting
findings, published in well-known research journals through such
conceptualization, will be described.
