Waseda Professor Junko Koeda Nominated to Bank of Japan’s Policy Board

On January 28, 2025 the Government of Japan submitted a proposal to the Diet nominating Waseda University Faculty of Political Science and Economics Professor Junko Koeda to the Bank of Japan’s Policy Board.
If the Diet officially approves Professor Koeda’s appointment, she would begin her five-year term on March 26, 2025.

Professor Koeda specializes in macroeconomics and finance and international finance. She began teaching at Waseda University as an associate professor in September of 2014 and as a professor from April of 2022.
She has previously served as a staff economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Chief Research Officer at the Ministry of Finance’s Policy Research Institute and has also worked as a visiting scholar at the Bank of Japan’s Institute for Monetary and Economic Studies.
Professor Koeda would be the third person from our University to be appointed to the Bank of Japan’s Policy Board, following former Professor Yutaka Harada, who served as a member of the board until March 2020, and Professor Masazumi Wakatabe, who served as Deputy Governor until March 2023.
