Title:                The Great Convergence -Information Technology and the New Globalization-

Speaker:          Richard Baldwin, Ph.D.

Professor, the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva

Policy Director, Center for Economic Policy Research, London

Editor-in-Chief, VoxEU.org

Prof. Baldwin is one of the most prominent scholars in international economics, publishing a tremendous number of papers in international trade, economic growth, and economic geography.

Abstract:           In this seminar, Prof. Baldwin will give a talk based on his recent book, “The Great Convergence – Information Technology and the New Globalization -.” The new globalization driven by information technology encourages technology transfer to less developed countries and thus leads to their rapid industrialization and catching-up with developed countries. In the era of this Great Convergence, developed and less developed countries face unprecedented policy challenges in their efforts to maintain reliable growth and social cohesion. Based on these arguments, Prof. Baldwin will discuss the future of the world economy. In addition, as he is a specialist in free trade areas, he will touch upon the future of EU after Brexit and TPP.
