MARTINEZ SIRES, Paula (Spain)
- Enrollment in April 2015
- Study Plan:Culture & Communication
I decided to enrol at GSICCS’s PhD Program because I felt very attracted to the English-speaking, Japan Studies seminar that it offers, since my field of research is Translation and Japanese Literature. I knew that GSICCS was starting a new PhD program in April 2015, and after doing some research I decided this was the place I had been looking for. The fact that I was expected to submit my dissertation in English motivated me, since it might be a great opportunity for my future academic career. Furthermore, by joining this program Waseda University’s Central Library Archive would open its doors to me and that was, as a scholar, a high motivator to choose GSICCS.
Once enrolled, I joined Professor Pinnington’s “Japan Studies” seminar. The amicable English-speaking, transcultural environment that this seminar offers helped me to get to know many PhD and MA students from around the globe who offered me feedback and new points of view on my ongoing research. In this seminar we do presentations regarding the progress of our research, which also helps us to stay on track.
GSICCS has provided me the perfect environment to set the ground for my thesis, mentally and academically, and I am confident that it will help me to better myself, not only as a scholar but as a person. In the future, I would like to contribute to the scarce Japanese-Spanish Translation Theory scholarship, as well as to teach about Japanese Literature and Translation Studies.
