I am researching on talks on video chat, focusing on interactional problems that speakers from various lingua cultural backgrounds deal with.
Due to the technological advancement and the COVID-19 outbreak, video chat has become a growing phenomenon used at business conferences, university classes, and “nomikai” as well! Also, its strength is connecting geographically separated people, so intercultural communication often takes place on video chat.
However, because of the time delay to deliver voice or the limitation of eye contact, speakers have interactional difficulties.
This study aims to detect such trouble sources and how speakers repair for mutual understanding by using conversation analysis as the methodology.
