Message

I enrolled in the newly created GSICCS doctoral program in 2015. My aim was to study Japanese literature in translation within a multicultural environment that let me learn and research both in English and Japanese.

GSICCS helped me to achieve that by means of offering a rich and diverse community. The faculty
was incredibly supporting and guided me through the whole process and, at the same time, gave me the liberty I needed to fully pursue my research interests. The constant discussions and debates with other GSICCS students enabled me to open my mind to new theories and ideas, which enriched my research and helped me to grow as a person. After being awarded my Ph.D. degree, I started working as an Assistant Professor at the College of International Relations at Nihon University. There I teach English-content classes on Japan Studies, mostly focusing on literature and culture, and Japanese-content classes about translation studies and the reception of Japanese subcultures overseas. My research focuses on Meiji women writers and translators, and the study of translated texts and paratexts of Japanese literature. I believe that the years I spent at GSICCS helped to improve and shape the researcher and communicator I am today. Now my aim is to instil the same GSICCS values in my students.
