Program
When is the enrollement period?
Enrollment for the degree-seeking English-based programs is available only in September. Applicants who wish to enroll in April should consider applying to a Japanese-based programs.
What research fields are available in the English-based program?
For information on the research fields and supervising faculty members, please refer to the Research Guidance Information.
Is it possible to study clinical psychology in the English-based program?
While some faculty members conducting research related to psychology are affiliated with the English-based program, there are currently no faculty members from the Clinical Psychology research area of the Graduate School participating in the English-based program. We therefore recommend considering enrollment in the Japanese-based program.

Is it possible to study while working?
For the English-based master’s program, students are generally required to attend classes on weekdays during the daytime at Tokorozawa Campus over a two-year period. Therefore, it may be difficult to balance the program with full-time employment.
For the doctoral program, applicants are advised to consult with prospective supervisors in advance regarding their research plan and study arrangements. For information on how to contact faculty members, please refer to the Research Guidance Information.

Could you explain the requirements for exemption from submitting English proficiency test scores?
An exemption is granted only to native speakers of English or to applicants who meet both of the following conditions:
(1) They have graduated from a university located in an English-speaking country; and
(2) The program they completed was an English-based program.

Are English proficiency test scores other than TOEFL or IELTS (e.g., Duolingo) accepted?
No. At present, only TOEFL or IELTS scores are accepted.

How much are the enrollment fees and tuition?

Are there any scholarships provided by Waseda University?
In principle, scholarships provided by Waseda University can only be applied for after enrollment.
Please note that scholarships are not available immediately upon enrollment and are not guaranteed. Therefore, we do not recommend planning your studies based solely on the expectation of receiving a scholarship.

Applicants who wish to secure funding prior to enrollment are advised to consider applying to our programs after you have been accepted for the MEXT scholarship.
Is it possible to enroll using the MEXT Scholarship?
Yes, it is possible.

For September intake, applicants must apply through their local Japanese embassy or consulate by around April of the previous year. Please confirm the exact deadline with the relevant embassy or consulate.

There are two types of MEXT Scholarships: Embassy Recommendation and University Recommendation. For the Graduate School of Human Sciences, only the Embassy Recommendation is available.

MEXT Scholarship students are generally accepted initially as non-degree students. After admission, applicants may become regular(degree-seeking) students if they apply for and pass the screening process for the regular degree program.

However, if an applicant is approved as a MEXT Scholarship student and successfully applies for and is admitted to the regular degree program before the start of enrollment, they may enroll as a regular student from the outset.
