On May 21, 2024, the Global Management Program (GMP) at Waseda University’s School of Commerce hosted its first Career Forum for the 2024 academic year. The event aimed to help current GMP students explore future career options by inviting successful alumni to share their experiences. The forum attracted 13 alumni and approximately 40 GMP students. It began with an introduction of the alumni’s careers, followed by small group breakout sessions for more in-depth discussions.
During the breakout sessions, GMP students had the opportunity to ask the alumni about their experiences, how they spent their time as students, and their current jobs. Hearing about the alumni’s real-life experiences helped students gain a clearer picture of potential career paths.
After the forum, an exchange meeting was held with the alumni, the GMP Student Committee, and GMP faculty members to discuss ways to enhance future GMP events. The alumni provided valuable feedback and suggestions, expressing high expectations for the program’s continued growth.
The event provided GMP students with valuable insights from experienced professionals and encouraged them to start thinking about their own career goals. Shunya Hayakawa, a 3rd-year GMP student, shared, “This career forum helped me expand my range of career options and think deeply about my own path. The alumni’s valuable experiences served as a guidepost for my future and gave me confidence in making my own career choices.” The enthusiastic feedback from students and alumni alike underscores the success of the GMP Career Forum and bodes well for its future editions.
