4th GMP Forum of 2023 Successfully Held on October 31

The 4th Global Management Forum (GMP) was successfully held on October 31st. The event showcased a detailed presentation on the outcomes of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) International Case Competition (HKICC), which took place in early October. Additionally, the forum included a lecture and workshop conducted by Ms. Kana Shinozaki of Mitsubishi Corporation.

The HKICC student team shared the details of their journey to HKICC. In addition to sharing the very details of their preparation before the event, they also elaborated on how they came up with strategy to solve complex business problems presented in the case. Furthermore, they provided insights into their interactions with other teams, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the collaborative and competitive atmosphere that defined the event. HKICC team’s presentation, which encapsulated a spectrum of emotions from joy to frustration and ultimately pride, served as a source of inspiration for many in the audience.

After the presentation on HKICC, Ms. Kana Shinozaki took the stage to deliver an insightful lecture and lead a workshop. She commenced with an overview of Mitsubishi Corporation’s business operations. Ms. Shinozaki then shared her personal experiences, offering a glimpse into the life of a business professional committed to addressing global issues.

The workshop led by Ms. Shinozaki transitioned into an introspective activity, encouraging participants to engage in self-reflection of their past and future. This involved writing letters of gratitude to individuals who had made significant impacts in their lives, as well as creating visual collages that represented their aspirations and where they envisioned themselves a decade from now. Conducted entirely in English, the workshop initially presented a language challenge for some students. However, as the session progressed, these students gradually overcame their initial hesitations, becoming more confident and expressive in their communication.

The feedback received highlighted the workshop’s impact, with 3rd-year students offering comments like, “It provided me an opportunity to reevaluate my true self, which I tend to lose sight of during job hunting,” and “The workshop enabled me to articulate memories and dreams for the future and to feel a sense of connection between my past, present, and future.” Additionally, 4th-year students expressed their appreciation, with remarks such as, “It helped me determine the direction I should take as I enter the workforce.”

To conclude, the GMP forum once again established itself as a vital platform for insightful discussions and engaging activities. By facilitating the sharing of students’ experiences in global activities and assisting them in envisioning their future career paths, the forum aims to foster individual perspectives and goals. By providing these valuable experiences, the GMP forum remains one of GMP’s key initiatives in nurturing the personal and professional growth of the students.
