Waseda GMP Welcomes Bryant University Student Delegation for Cultural and Educational Exchanges

On August 21st and 22nd, 2023, Waseda University’s global management program (GMP) welcomed a delegation of 14 students and two faculty members from Bryant University, USA. The visit aimed to foster educational and cultural exchanges between the two institutions. Bringing together nearly 30 students from both institutions, the two-day event featured discussions, field trips, and corporate visits, strengthening ties between the two esteemed universities.

The program commenced on the first day at Waseda’s campus, with a lecture by Professor Harutoshi Tagaya and presentations delivered by students from both universities. Following the lecture and presentations, the participants engaged in group discussions. The discussions centered on highlighting the cultural similarities and differences between Japan and the United States, especially in the domains of education and business.

On day two, the students branched out into various groups, immersing themselves in the rich tapestry of Tokyo’s culture. Activities like crafting traditional Japanese confectionaries and learning about the cultural heritages of the Edo-era awaited the students. Throughout these experiences, Waseda’s GMP students took the role of ambassadors, providing their Bryant University colleagues with a unique and personal insight into Japanese culture. The afternoon segment featured a visit to Tokio Marine HD. During this visit, students gained a deeper understanding of the company’s steadfast commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and participated in a dialogue about the emerging trends in the insurance industry. A lively Q&A ensued, with students from both institutions actively contributing and making the session both informative and interactive.

The visit was undeniably enriching for everyone involved. While faculty members, including Professor Nakaide, offered general guidance, GMP students took the initiative in planning, organizing, facilitating, and leading the discussions with the Bryant University students. By sharing insights into Japanese business management and cultural nuances, the GMP students collectively enriched the understanding of diverse business perspectives for all participants. This cross-cultural interaction was an invaluable experience for the personal and academic growth of the GMP students.

In addition, this visit program serves as a testament to the strengths of the GMP. It underscores the program’s ability to provide students with a variety of opportunities for personal and academic growth. GMP students are motivated to continue striving for excellence, not only in improving their English language skills but also in developing leadership skills by taking advantage of such opportunities. The exchange event with Bryant University exemplifies international collaboration and development, a core value the GMP at Waseda University deeply cherishes and nurtures.
