On April 16, 2026, Miles Young, Warden of New College at the University of Oxford, visited Waseda University.

During the visit, Warden Young, along with Mark Curtis, Director of Development at New College, met with Aiji Tanaka, President of Waseda University, and Masahiko Gemma, Vice President for International Affairs for a casual discussion. Later, they were joined by Professors Atsushi Tago and Kohei Kawamura from the Faculty of Political Science and Economics.

Next, President Tanaka and Professor Kawamura accompanied Warden Young on a visit to Waseda’s educational facilities, where they had the opportunity to speak with student representatives.

Warden Young and President Tanaka had previously met during President Tanaka’s visit to Oxford in July 2024. This meeting led to the July 2025 signing of an agreement to send Waseda students to Oxford as visiting students, and the first three students to visit Oxford under this agreement are scheduled to depart this fall.
Founded in 1379, New College is one of the oldest colleges at the University of Oxford. The college is known for being the first in Oxford to admit undergraduates and enact a tutoring system led by senior faculty members. Mari Sako, a member of the Waseda University Board of Trustees, also serves as a Professor of Management Studies at Saïd Business School and Professorial Fellow at New College, University of Oxford.
