Scheduled rolling blackouts have begun in Tokyo and neighboring prefectures to support urgent and growing demands for electricity, which surfaced in relation with the 2011 off the Pacific Coast of Tohoku Earthquake.

In reflecting the challenging situation, Waseda University has determined to take steps to further conserving energy. Effective March 15, the University earnestly encourages measures such as avoiding unnecessary lighting, limiting the use of air-conditioning facilities and the operations of elevators and escalators to a minimum extent.

We humbly ask for and appreciate your understanding and anticipated cooperation, which will be built on various energy-saving efforts that you all have kindly made to date for global warming control.
