A co-authored paper based on findings of a joint research project by Waseda University and Umeå University has been accepted for publication on Genus, one of the oldest demography journals in Europe. Professor Haruko Noguchi of the Faculty of Political Science and Economics, and Assistant Professor Rong Fu of the Faculty of Commerce participated in the joint research project.

The research project began as part of Waseda University’s participation in the MIRAI Project, a joint research promotion program between Japan and Sweden. The paper, titled “Convergence and persistent contrasts in the determinants of working-age women in Sweden and Japan living alone since the 1990s,” is co-authored by Professors Glenn Sandström and Mojgan Padyab of Umeå University, a MIRAI university.

In addition, the MIRAI 2.0 Research and Innovation Week will be held at Umeå University in Sweden from November 13 to 17, 2023. The program is now accepting applications for hosts or presenters in the field of Ageing, Material Science, Sustainability, AI, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

  • The MIRAI Project was launched at the Japan-Sweden University Presidents’ Summit in October 2015 to strengthen long-term research collaboration between universities in Japan and Sweden, as well as to promote universities in Japan and Sweden. 11 universities from Sweden and 9 universities from Japan, including Waseda University, participate in this project. Waseda University has been an active participant since the launch of the program.
