Have a Nice Winter Holiday Season

Dear Students of Waseda University,

I send you warm greetings as we begin the winter holidays. As the New Year approaches, I would like to thank you for the restraint you showed in social and athletic activities in Year 2021.

At Waseda University, we have been able to maintain face-to-face classes in nearly 70 per cent of courses throughout this academic year. At the beginning of the autumn semester, we detected no COVID-19 virus infections for several weeks. We have found only two cases of infection since September. I thank you students for your cooperation and disciplined behavior.

We expect that you are planning to enjoy a variety of events during this holiday season. As the Dean of Student Affairs announced yesterday, we decided to relax some of the restrictions on dining. You may have a dinner with a limited number of participants.

However, the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus has started to spread in Japan. It is very powerfuland spreads quickly. You cannot be too careful about the coronavirus in general. Please continue to follow the advice and instructions from the Dean of Student Affairs. You should refrain from holding parties or large group dinners. We would appreciate your cooperation.

During the winter holidays, please protect yourselves as you have during the autumn semester. Make sure to wash your hands with soap before eating or drinking. When soap is not available, wash your hands carefully with water.

We sincerely hope that all of you return to campus in good health in 2022 so that you will be able to complete your studies this academic year.Have a Happy New Year!
