Disposal of Unused Vaccines from University Covid-19 Vaccination Program

Waseda University would like to make an official statement and apology for having to dispose 39 piles of unused Moderna vaccines (i.e. Moderna vaccines for 390 people).

The Covid-19 Vaccination Program on campus officially ended on August 31, and all unused vaccines had to be kept in a freezer and have their temperature record taken for a specified period before returning them to the government. However, the University was unable to obtain the temperature record for a certain batch of vaccines. As a result, the University received specific instructions from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare to dispose these 39 piles of unused vaccines. This incident has been reported to both the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

The University sincerely apologizes for having to dispose these valuable vaccines and will step up its efforts in taking additional preventative measures in the future.
