Student Conduct During Golden Week

April 30, 2021

Dear Students of Waseda University,

We are going into the long weekend (so-called “Golden Week” in Japan) from May 2 through May 5. I would like to give you a caveat right before this Golden Week.

Please do not hold parties during the Golden Week or even on Friday, April 30 or Saturday, May 1. Also, it is important that you do not go outside and drink alcoholic beverages with other people on streets or in a park. We trust that you will behave well. However, I still feel that I am obligated to speak in strong terms because the faculty members, staff and I care about your health.

A second issue to which I need to draw your attention is that, in order to maintain the same ratio of in-person and online classes implemented in this semester, we will need your understanding and cooperation.

It has been very pleasant to see so many students back on our campuses attending classes in person from April 5 on. We, faculty members and administrative staff, are delighted to see the revival of a lively campus. We strongly wish to keep this environment.

Please take care of your health, which is vitally important for your studies at Waseda.

Best wishes,

Aiji Tanaka
President, Waseda University
