To Students Admitted to Waseda University

February 23, 2021

Dear Students,

Congratulations to those students who have been admitted to Waseda University. You must have spent an extraordinary year due to the corona virus pandemic. You have not been allowed to go out freely, study at school or meet your friends at will. However, you have overcome these handicaps and have been accepted by Waseda University. I truly respect your efforts to achieve this result, and I congratulate you.

Waseda University replaced, from August 2020 through January 2021, all old air conditioning systems with new ones that can circulate 30 cubic meters per hour per person to provide a safe environment for students to study on campus. We are aiming as a goal to provide approximately 70 percent of classes face-to-face on campus from April onwards, even while filling each class to less than half of capacity. Please feel safe and secure to enter Waseda University.

While we will provide about 30 percent of classes online, we emphasize the importance of discussions among students and between students and professors. We are working hard to ensure a normal campus life insofar as possible.

I would like to assure you of the personal comfort you can expect as a Waseda student. Students at Waseda University are all equal and associate with each other with mutual respect, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, religion, culture, gender, sexual-orientations, income, family background, topic of study, and cultural interests.

I am very pleased to introduce a motion picture in which Waseda students produced to create a new song “Soshite Konpeki no Sora e!” I hope you can feel and sense what kind of student life you may have at Waseda University.

We are looking forward to seeing you on campus at Waseda!

Aiji Tanaka, President
Waseda University
