On September 15, Waseda alumnae Mami Tani (her maiden name was Sato) came in first in the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in Rotterdam, Holland. Her time was 1:18.18.

According to the Japan Triathlon Union, this is the first time a Japanese national won a world championship. Congratulations!
