2017 marks the first anniversary of the destructive Kumamoto Earthquakes, which occurred last year on April 2016. This series of earthquakes has left many in devastation, especially those living in Kumamoto and Oita prefectures. The University once again sends our heartfelt condolences for the victims of this tragic natural disaster.
Waseda University and the Waseda University Alumni Association have supported those affected in various ways, such providing financial assistance and fee waivers for students and applicants. The University welcomed five students who are supported by these measures this year.

Waseda has also collected donations within and outside the University, and the Hirayama Ikuo Volunteer Center (WAVOC) has sent a total of 46 students, faculty and staff to the disaster-stricken areas to take surveys and offer disaster relief support.
Volunteer activities by WAVOC were made possible through the generous donations to the WASEDA Supporters Club. As of March 2017, the University has collected 4,834,618 yen, and we would like to express our deepest gratitude for all the contributions.
Waseda University is committed to provide ongoing support in its own ways and prays for the safety and speedy recovery of the Kyushu region.
