Junya Koga, a 2010 graduate of the School of Sport Sciences, won the silver medal with the time of 24.51 seconds for the 50m backstroke in the 2017 FINA World Aquatics Championships, taking place in Budapest, Hungary.

Though Koga has come in eighth place in the 400m freestyle relay at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, it has been eight years since the 2009 Championships in Rome, where Koga last won a medal.
