The Waseda University Student Counseling Center was established in 1968 as an affiliated university institution. Since then, it has kept evolving to address the diverse concerns of students across different eras.
From 1999, it operated as the Student Counseling Room within the Comprehensive Health Education Center (renamed the Health Support Center in 2009), supporting countless students. In 2018, it held a symposium commemorating its 50th anniversary.
Then, in June 2025, the organization became a part of the Student Diversity Center (SDC) and was renamed the Student Counseling Center (SCC).
This transition reflects the growing diversity of student concerns. Issues related to gender and sexuality, disorders and disabilities, mental health, and other areas increasingly require collaboration with the various centers under the Student Diversity Center. It also aims to strengthen human resources to meet diversifying needs, such as support for international students.
The Student Counseling Center’s roots lie in providing counseling and support for all manners of difficulties students might face in campus life. You might have issues that are difficult to discuss with family, friends, faculty, or administrative staff, as well as various troubles and worries in your daily life. There may be times when you feel “uneasy” for some reason and wish to talk to someone but can’t; when you need help untangling a complicated situation…
In every situation, SDC counselors will listen earnestly to your concerns, help you identify and address challenges, and extend support according to the situation. For issues requiring specialized consultation or potentially qualifying for the university’s “reasonable accommodation” process,we will coordinate with other SDC centers or relevant departments as appropriate.
We always hope to be your most reliable ally. If you are unsure where to turn for help, please come talk to us first.
