なぜSSLとして応募したか Why I applied to be an SSL
私は、留学前にSNSを通じてさまざまな国際情報を得ていたのですが、特定の国や地域に対するステレオタイプを無意識に受け入れてしまうことがありました。しかし、実際に日本に来て異なる文化の中で生活し、人々と直接交流を重ねる中で、そうした印象が必ずしも現実を反映していないことに気づきました。むしろ、思いやりにあふれ、他者への配慮を大切にする人たちとの出会いが多くあり、SNS上の一面的な情報とのギャップに驚かされました。このような経験から、直接の対話と交流こそが、本当の理解や信頼関係を築く鍵であると実感しました。
ICCの活動を通じて、私自身が体験したような「ステレオタイプを乗り越える出会い」を他の学生にも届けたいと強く思い、SSLに応募しました。
Before studying abroad, I often obtained international information through social media. However, I gradually realized that I had unconsciously internalized certain stereotypes about specific countries and regions. Yet, as I came to Japan and began living in a different cultural environment and engaging directly with people, I came to understand that such impressions do not necessarily reflect reality. In fact, I encountered many warm, thoughtful individuals who deeply valued interpersonal care. These real-life experiences stood in stark contrast to the one-sided information I had absorbed online. Through these encounters, I came to believe that genuine understanding and trust are built not through distant observation, but through direct dialogue and human connection. With this belief in mind, I applied to SSL in hopes of helping other students experience the same kind of eye-opening encounters that helped me overcome stereotypes.
SSLとして働くことへのやりがい Why I like being an SSL
SSLとしての活動を始めたばかりですが、イベントにおいて、異なる文化背景を持つ参加者同士が楽しそうに交流している様子や、「盛り上がっていく」瞬間を目にしたとき、こうした交流の場を支える一員であることに大きなやりがいを感じました。また、イベントが無事に終わった後、先輩のSSLから感謝や励ましの言葉をいただいたこともとても嬉しくて、自分の働きが誰かの役に立っていると実感できました。
Although I’ve only just started working as an SSL, I felt a strong sense of fulfillment when I saw participants from different cultural backgrounds interacting joyfully and witnessed the moment when the atmosphere “got excited”. It made me realize how rewarding it is to be part of the team that supports such intercultural exchange. I was also genuinely happy to receive words of appreciation and encouragement from senior SSLs after the event, which made me feel that my involvement had made a real difference.

真の理解は、実際に他者と向き合い、交流する中でこそ育まれる。
It is only through real interaction with others that true understanding can be fostered.
