Have you ever heard of Hanji, the traditional Korean paper?
Hanji has a history of over 1,000 years and is known for its durability and eco-friendly nature.
Made from the bark of the mulberry tree, it has been used throughout Korean history for everything from homes and furniture to clothing and books.
Despite being made from natural materials, Hanji can last for hundreds of years, earning the nickname, “the paper that breathes.”
In this special ICC workshop, Ms. Soyeon, a certified Hanji artisan based in Tokyo, will guide us in creating our own Hanji craft pieces! You’ll not only learn about the traditional materials, techniques, and cultural meaning behind Hanji, but also have the opportunity to make your own unique item using real Hanji paper. By tearing, layering, and pasting the paper by hand, you will experience the delicate process and deep charm of Hanji through all five senses. Of course, you’ll be able to take your finished creation home as a special keepsake from the event!
Whether you’re interested in Korean culture, love crafts, or simply want to try something new, this workshop is open to everyone.
Come and discover the warmth and richness of Korean paper tradition through this hands-on experience.
We look forward to welcoming you!
