K-dramas, cosmetics, Korean food. It seems that Korean culture is causing a phenomenon again these days. It goes without saying that K-pop is at the center of this Korean Wave.
K-pop’s global status is increasing day by day, with many musical artists doing world tours and topping the music charts.
In the midst of all this, have you ever wondered:
·Why are people all over the world fascinated by K-pop?
·What is it about K-pop that attracts people all over the world?
·How did K-pop gain popularity in the global market?
ICC will hold a K-pop Night with Mr. Masayuki Furuya, a K-pop journalist, as a guest to answer those questions!
In particular, we will focus on K-pop’s marketing and talk about the strategies and how K-pop succeeded in entering the global market.
After the lecture, we will also have social time where participants can talk about K-pop.
It’s an opportunity for students from all backgrounds to learn about K-pop and meet people who have the same interests!

Mr. Masayuki Furuya
Radio DJ, Television VJ, MC, K-pop journalist
Born in Hokkaido in 1974. After graduating university he studied abroad in both Canada and Korea. Upon returning to Japan, he earned a Master’s degree in Journalism from Sophia University.
In 2000, he began introducing K-pop to a Japanese audience as a DJ on Japan’s first special K-pop program “Beats of Korea” on Sapporo’s Northwave FM radio station. In 2004 he was the first Japanese person to be a VJ on MTV Korea’s J-pop program “J-BEAT.” In 2008 he was honored with a commission from the Korea Tourism Organization as a tourism ambassador, and in 2009 he received the Order of Cultural Merit from the Korean government for his contributions to the popularization of K-Pop in Japan.
Currently he works as representative director of the K-pop label “Old House Co. Ltd.” as well as a radio DJ, TV VJ and event MC including NHK R1”Furuya Masayuki’s POP★A,” NHK R2 ”Radio Korean lecture,” NHK ”Hangul! Navi,” NORTHWAVE ”Colors Of Korea,” TV Aichi ”Furuya Masaki no Hanryu Class,” Mnet ”M Tane BANG!” and BS Fuji ”MUSIC LIST ~What is OST.”
In May, he released his first translated picture book in collaboration with his wife Mina Furuya, ”Why Dad came home last night” (Iwasaki Bookstore).
