Itoya, a Ginza landmark.
In order to remain a beloved brand, Itoya is aiming to change its identity from an “ordinary stationery store” to “a space that provides entertainment.” To achieve this, the company states it will provide an environment where people feel comfortable spending time.
Throughout the years, most retail stores have taken the style of managing inventory, renting a space, and hiring people that fit the store. But, due to the intensifying competition within the industry, and the rise in online shopping, it became more and more difficult to maintain that traditional style.
Looking at the world today, Itoya has decided to innovate their stores by changing their mindset to create not just a place to purchase merchandise, but a place where people can spend time comfortably. For example, major remodeling, decreasing the number of items at stores by 2/3, etc. All of these efforts were made to create a store that fits the needs of today. For this innovation to occur, they have succeeded in convincing countless stakeholders to accept these changes, and even now, their journey of innovation goes on.
For this ICC Talk Session, we are inviting ITO-YA Ltd. Senior Vice President Mikio Matsui, who has had experience in promoting innovation in IT, marketing, and stores. He will talk about how Itoya has done in-store innovation, and the story behind it, which cannot be known from simply visiting the stores.
There will be a chance to ask him questions directly at the end.
If you are interested in innovation, or marketing, and of course if you are a fan of stationery or you love Itoya, this is the event for you!
