According to the World Bank (2018), 10 percent of the world is living on less than $2 a day.
132 million of the global poor live in areas with high flood risk.
258 million children and youth are out of school.
…
How do you feel when you read these facts?
These are global issues, but we believe that people can help to start solving them in the places where problems exist by sharing their thoughts and experiences.
ICC will collaborate with the Vietnam Japan University (VJU) in Hanoi and the Waseda University circle DOORS on a discussion about the impact of volunteering on society.
VJU is a national public university in Hanoi newly established in 2014 through cooperation of Japan and Vietnam. VJU is expected to contribute to socio-economic development and to become a center of cultural and academic exchanges between Vietnam and Japan.
DOORS is an official circle at Waseda University with a long history of volunteering abroad, especially in Vietnam. Members will talk about their work and how it creates bright smiles and happiness.
Giving your time to help others is extremely beneficial, for you and your community. In addition to the work, you can also make new friends, expand your network and boost your social skills. Gaining a broad, open-minded perspective of the different walks of life around you will help you to be an effective and empathetic citizen. Volunteering can provide a meaningful experience to every student.
This Discussion Café event is a perfect occasion to talk about Vietnam and Japan, and what we can do to give back to our community and the world.
You don’t need to have special knowledge of the subject or advanced skills in English to join in this event, just a willingness to participate and have fun!
