We come across an enormous amount of information in our daily lives via media. Not just TV and newspapers, which were the primary forms of news distribution in the past, today Internet websites and SNS also provide us with overwhelming amounts of information.
However, do you think everything you find in the media is true? Is it always helpful to have more access to information?
There are many pitfalls when searching for information on the internet. If we do not properly understand the nature of media, we may misunderstand the truth. If we are not ready to accept other values, even with abundant information we may narrow our perspective rather than broaden it.
Would you like to have a discussion about “Media Literacy” with people from various backgrounds who each have their own unique ideas and values?
ICC English Discussion Cafe is an event where students from all departments, nationalities and cultural backgrounds, of both Waseda and TMDU, have the opportunity to come together and discuss specific issues in English.
For this event, we are collaborating with Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU), which will make the discussion even more interesting.
Since students from various fields from both universities are attending, you will have the chance to hear many unexpected ideas and opinions.
Moreover, you don’t need professional knowledge regarding the topic, nor fluency in English, just a willingness to interact with others!
If you want to practice expressing your thoughts in English, or discuss interesting topics with students from other universities, then please come and join the ICC English Discussion Cafe!
