In ICC English Discussion Cafe, a diversity of people who are from different undergraduate or graduate schools, nationalities, and cultural backgrounds gather up and have the opportunity to discuss about particular issues in English.
For this semester, our collaboration event with Tokyo Medical and Dental University will be on the theme of LGBT.
How familiar are you with LGBT (one of the general terms that stands for sexual minorities)?
In fact, it has been told that there is as many LGBT people as the same percentage of left-handed people, people with AB blood type, even the population of Kanagawa prefecture, and higher than the total number of people whose last name is “Sato・Suzuki・Takahashi・Tanaka”.
LGBT has been featured in the media lately, nonetheless, the reality in Japan is that there exists no legal framework to protect the rights of the LGBT people.
In this Discussion Cafe, we will discuss about the reality of sexual minorities and especially how the people is suffering from the discrimination and prejudices.
It will be a perfect occasion to rethink about our unconscious bias and learn how can we take an action against that.
Since students from various fields from both university is attending, you will have a chance to glance at unexpected ideas and values.
You don’t need professional knowledge regarding the topic, nor fluency in English.
If you want to practice expressing your thoughts in English, or discuss interesting topics with students from other universities, then please come and join the ICC English Discussion Cafe!
