ICC Canadian Night – Get a taste of the music, food and nature of Canada (2018.11.16)

Poster

Canada = Maple Syrup right?

No! There are many other charming aspects of Canada that most people do not know about.

Now at the ICC Canadian Night, we will show to everyone the natural beauty of Canada through presentations from Waseda’s Canadian students and photographs of the northern skies filled with the fabulous aurora borealis.

Canada is known as a nation of immigrants and the Canadian government was the first in the world to introduce a policy of multiculturalism. In turn, Canadian society is a “cultural mosaic” of peoples with a variety of identities and ethnicities living together. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also made the news recently when he was an active participant in the LGBT pride parade. This solidified the image of Canada being a country that truly treasures diversity amongst its people.

Canada has produced many world-famous musical artists such as Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber and Celine Dion. And at this event, there will be a special medley of songs including those by Canadian artist Leonard Cohen performed by the Tokyo College of Music Saxophone Quartet.

On top of that, during the cafe time the Canadian owner of a specialty wine bar will be selling Canadian wine that is rarely available here in Japan!

While you are chatting about Canada with the other participants you can also get a taste of an “aurora hunt” by admiring the beautiful photographs of the aurora borealis taken by Waseda staff member Naoto Okazaki.

So what are you waiting for? Come along and see a different side to the super popular study abroad and working holiday destination, Canada!
