Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelagic country, has more than 13,000 islands and hundreds of different ethnic groups.
Each ethnic group has its own unique and distinct culture. Indonesia’s rich diversity can be seen through its possession of over 3,000 traditional dances.
One of them is the traditional dance of Aceh Province “Saman Dance.” Saman Dance expresses the daily life of Aceh including its natural environment and ethnicity through movement of the body without using any instruments.
It is a dance featuring dynamic and fast movements which is shown not only in Indonesia, but at other country’s international events and received high evaluation. The dance was also performed at international events and has earned high praise.
However, the dance is also on UNESCO`s emergency protection list of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and is considered in danger of being lost.
This time, ICC will hold an event introducing “Saman Dance”.
In addition to seeing performance by Indonesian dancers, there is also an opportunity to learn Saman dance from a professional teacher!
Let’s enjoy cross-cultural exchange together through dance!
If you are interested in the culture of Indonesia or love dancing, this event is for you!
