Japan has long been considered as one of the best countries in the world for anything “artsy”. Through worldwide media exposure, its calligraphy, wood-prints, ceramics, manga comics and anime have been well-known for generations.
But what about its’ modern art?
Have you ever heard of Shunso Hishida, one of the major figures in Pre-World War II Japanese painting?
How about Ryusei Kishida, a Japanese painter in the Taisho and Showa period who is best known for his realistic Western-style (Youga) portraiture and also for his modern Japanese-style (Nihonga) paintings?
There’s a whole world of Japanese art and culture that most people are still yet to discover!
In this event, participants will have the opportunity to visit the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (MOMAT). The museum is known for its collection of 20th-century art and includes both Youga and Nihonga artists. The art appreciation tour with experienced guides will provide you with the chance to discuss some of the selected works and get to know more about Japanese culture from different perspectives.
This is guaranteed to be a more unique and deeper experience than if you visit the museum by yourself.
Come along and join us on this art trip and have great fun interacting with students from different cultural backgrounds!
