As the LGBT movement gains momentum around the globe, more and more governments are ensuring LGBT rights with new policies and laws.
Same-sex marriage is now legal in over 20 countries and regions worldwide with many other nations also allowing civil unions and other recognitions.
Despite such advances, LGBT people all over the world can still face prejudice and discrimination in their day to day lives. So what kind of homophobic and transphobic hurdles do these people face in society?
How can we raise awareness and combat this worrying trend?
In this talk session there’ll be a speech from Amnesty International Japan, a talk from LGBT student allies, and also personal stories from LGBT students. Afterwards, there’ll be a cafe exchange time where participants can interact with the speakers on a more personal level.
As more and more LGBT people are choosing to come out at home, school and work, now is the perfect time to learn more about this complex minority who is said to make up between 5-10% of the general population. So whether you are interested in sexuality issues, human rights, or simply someone who’s interested in this current global topic, come along and get all the need-to-know information from several different points of view.
