I’ve been an international student at Waseda since September of 2020 but hadn’t attended any ICC events until very recently.
Originally from Italy and raised in France, I grew up playing a lot of football as it’s the most common sport in both countries. However, after moving to Japan, I found it challenging to find places to play casually or enough people to play with, so I gradually stopped playing. Thankfully, a friend convinced me to attend this ICC event, and I’m happy they did as it was a lot of fun, and I met many great people.
The event was exceptionally well organized, with a surprising number of attendees. The staff’s dedication to ensuring everyone had a fantastic time was really appreciated. One of the highlights for me was meeting other Italian and French attendees, which made me happy since I rarely get to use my native languages in Japan. There aren’t many native Italian and French speakers around, so it nice to speak in my mother tongues for a change.
Overall, the experience was great, and I’m eager to participate in more ICC events in the future. This first experience has shown me the value of engaging with the community here, and I look forward to making more connections and rediscovering past hobbies like football through such events.
