Mission
The Waseda University Center for Higher Education Studies was established on February 1, 2014. The Center’s mission, in compliance with the university’s philosophy, is to support research into higher education as well as the planning, promotion, development and implementation of teaching methods in order to promote autonomous and sustainable university reforms that contribute to improving the quality of education, research and management at the university.
Activities of the Center
In order to achieve this mission, the Center engages in the following activities:
- Research and investigation into higher education, including entrance examinations, at Waseda University
- Ongoing assessment and examination of Waseda University’s role in society and its educational impact
- Promotion of autonomous university reforms and support for self-inspection and self-assessment at Waseda University
- Collection, analysis and provision of various data related to education and management at Waseda University
- Research, development and promotion of teaching methods based on ICT and distance learning
- Research, development and promotion of other pioneering teaching methods
- Planning and promotion of projects related to the development of academic staff’s teaching skills
- Planning, development and operation of workshops and training programs aimed at improving lessons
- Making educational content available to the general public
- Handling copyright related procedures in relation to the creation of lesson content and management of lesson content copyrights
- Implementation of joint programs with educational and research organizations and companies, both in Japan and abroad
- Publication and communication to the wider public of the Center’s activities and activity results
- Research, education and survey consignments
- Any other matters necessary to achieve the Center’s goals
The Center for Higher Education Studies includes two departments: the Center for Higher Education and Institutional Research (CHEIR) and the Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT). These departments carry out the activities described below. An execution plan is formulated every year and activities are implemented accordingly.
Center for Higher Education and Institutional Research (CHEIR)
- Research and investigation into higher education, including entrance examinations, at Waseda University
