内容・趣旨

Language and morality are two striking forms of uniquely human social cognition. This talk examines their shared roots in evolution and ontogeny. Evolutionarily, the ancestral context of interdependent collaborative foraging selected for humans with adaptations for cooperation, including communication (e.g., language) and social normativity (e.g., morality). Starting early in ontogeny, human children use language in normative ways, such as to initiate, preserve, revise, and act on social norms.
