In my research, I am focusing on foreigners’s participation in Japanese doujin (self-publishing) activities,

such as the translation of Japanese doujin-shi (self-published magazines) through scanlation (scanning and translation) or with the consent, and sometimes even with the assistance of doujin authors.

My purpose is to discover whether or not there is sufficient demand for doujin-shi in the Japanese publishing market first of all and also for its translations, especially English translations in overseas markets.

I suppose that some kind of positive relations between Japanese self-publishing writers and non-Japanese readers in this grey zone of the self-publishing community are being constructed.
