My name is KATAOKA Sadaharu, I am a faculty member of SILS in Waseda Uiversity since April 2004. I am actually teaching African Politics, EU politics and Public Diplomacy in the SILS and GSICCS. I am currently a member of board of Directors of the Africa Society of Japan and the AFRECO(Association Of African Economy And Development) which are very important Japanese associations related to Africa.

I served as a Research Fellow in charge of African and European affairs at the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA)(2000-2004). Before joining the JIIA, I was in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) and served as a Special Assistant within the political section of the Embassy of Japan in France(1996-2000) to deal with the African affairs and Peace Process in the Middle East. I graduated from the school of the Political Sciences and Economics of Waseda University and completed the doctoral course (Political Sciences) of University of Paris I and Paris II. I obtained a PhD (in Political Science) from the University of Paris I (Pantheon-Sorbonne) in 2000 and obtained a special degree from the Institut des Hautes Etudes de Défense Nationale (French Military School) in 2005. I served also as a Visiting Professor in Sciences-Po Paris twice (2008 and 2015). I am also a member of the Editorial Board on African Geopolitics. Selected recent articles: “Morocco and the AU(2016)”, “Political crisis in South Africa and Zuma”(2017), “Presidential elections in Kenya and the last battle of Odinga”(2017) , “The Downfall of Mugabe and the future of Zimbabwe” (2017), “Aby Ahmed and New Ethiopia”(2018), “Macron and France’s new African Policy”(2018), “The inequality in the West Africa”(2019) and “Politics of Cameroon and the Analysis of Jean-Francois Bayart”(2019), etc.
