Throughout the second half of 2023, Professor Dvorak had the privilege of serving as Guest Curator for the Public Program of Art Collaboration Kyoto (ACK) event, held at the Kyoto International Conference Center from October 28 to 30, 2023.
In this role, he drew upon his research and worked closely with contemporary artists, both domestic and international, to curate an exhibition that challenged traditional artistic norms.
The theme of the exhibition, “Beyond Glitch: Artists Remapping Reality in a Broken World,” provided a platform for artists and collectives to explore marginalized cultural and political themes within the context of the post-pandemic world.
Professor Dvorak’s curation aimed to disrupt the commercial flows of art by showcasing works that addressed critical global issues, from environmental concerns to societal inequalities.
The final selection featured 10 artists and collectives whose art offered a unique perspective on the world’s current challenges.
Dvorak’s involvement in this exhibition underscored the significant role of art in bringing attention to critical contemporary issues through multidisciplinary collaboration between academic and artistic spheres.
Well-attended both by domestic and international audiences and media, this art event also featured a talk program, in which Dvorak spoke onstage with influential Japanese artist Nawa Kohei and London-based Delfina art foundation’s chairman Aaron Cesar.
