Published December 24 from Akaaka Press, Professor Greg Dvorak wrote the text (English and Japanese) for emerging Zainichi Korean Artist Kim Sajik’s inaugural photo book, “Story,” a large collection of the artist’s work that deals with themes of cultural displacement, trauma, gender, and renewal. Dvorak’s text is partly the outcome of his ongoing Kakenhi research grant on decolonizing Japan and Oceania through art.
This writing also relates to the work he has done to research Korean, Ainu, and Okinawan minority communities in Japan over the past two years, which was the theme of his public lecture in Kyoto together with the artist on November 5, 2022.
