Associate Professor MORIYAMA, Hiizu ontributed to the Toronto Dictionary of Old English Project (Centre for Medieval Studies, University of Toronto, 1986-).

Here is the comment from Associate Professor MORIYAMA.

————————————————————————————–

I have been studying the Old English lexical group feorm and its cognates, including feorm (noun), feornian (verb), and other related derivative and compound words, such as cyning-feorm and niht-feorm. The feorm-word family can be seen as extremely polysemous without any certain etymological traces (see Oxford English Dictionary s.v. farm). The lexical entries feorm, feormian, and some others in the Toronto Dictionary of Old English (Centre for Medieval Studies, University of Toronto, 1986-) have been written using the preliminary works and draft entries that I made for the project (see Dictionary of Old English Fascicle F at https://doeartsci.utoronto.ca/?cat=6).   “Fascicle F was prepared by Antonette diPaolo Healey, Joan Holland, David McDougall, Ian McDougall, Nancy Speirs, and Pauline Thompson, with the assistance of Dorothy Haines, using materials assembled by the late Angus Cameron. Michiko Ogura of Chiba University contributed the entries on (ge)faran and (ge)fēran, Hiizu Moriyama of Waseda University did preliminary work on the feorm word-family, and Ishiguro Taro of Kyorin University wrote a preliminary draft of forsacan.”  In 2022 drafting entries for fascicle L will be completed (see 2021 Progress Report at Dictionary of Old English: 2021 Progress Report (utoronto.ca) ).
